The small church of Santo Stefano can be reached by walking along the small alleys of Assisi. It was built midway through the 12th-century and is characterised by a simple façade.
The inside consists of one nave with Gothic arches and the walls are covered with frescoes from the 15th and 16th-century. Embrasures allow light to enter and tradition has it that the Bell tower rang during St. Francis’s final agony. The natural beauty of Santo Stefano invite one to prayer and Franciscan meditation.
