Assisi Pax Mundi 2024 – 11th edition

“I have been crucified with Christ” (Galatians 2,19)

Assisi continues to promote and spread the culture of the dialogue thanks to its particular attitude in promoting the peace and the respect among people: a culture that is intended to accept you all who follow St Francis and St Clare’s example.
“Assisi Pax Mundi” festival is organized by the four Franciscan Families in Assisi with the cooperation of the Chapel Choir of the Papal Basilica of St Francis: it has reached its 11th edition and it really want to offer the possibility to dialogue for peace and communion. Artists participating at the event are invited to present their repertoire and to meet each other in the beautiful scenery of Assisi, to share their experiences and feelings.

This year the various Franciscan families will celebrate the 800 hundredth anniversary of the impression of the Sacred Stigmata on the body of St. Francis on Mount La Verna in the year 1224; the Franciscan Sources narrate the event to us as follows: “One morning, around the feast of the Exaltation of the Holy Cross,” while he was absorbed in prayer on a slope of Mount La Verna, two years before his death, a seraph with six wings appeared to him. Within its six wings there was the form of a very beautiful, crucified man, whose hands and feet were extended after the manner of a cross, and whose features were clearly those of the Lord Jesus. Two wings covered his head, two, the rest of his body down to the feet, and two were extended as if for flight.
When the vision disappeared, a marvelous glow of love remained in his soul, but, even more marvelous, an impression of the stigmata of our Lord Jesus Christ appeared in his flesh.” (FF1483).

Francis’ experience was not only one of pain, but also an experience of love: the love of God for Francis, allowing him to be a witness to his passion; but also, the love of Francis for God, participating, as he did, in the Paschal mystery of Christ.
In remembering this significant event, the XI performance of Assisi Pax Mundi, will celebrate musically, both the theme of the eighth centenary, “the Stigmata”, but also the mystery of Jesus’ death and resurrection. Thus, we hope to propose to everyone and especially to the world-wide choral, the contemplation in music of this year’s theme: “I have been crucified with Christ”.

The festival is taking place from the 17th to 20nd of October 2024 with a series of concerts that will occur in different moments of the day in the Franciscan places of Assisi and its surroundings; the final concert will be the event’s crowning moment: all entered groups will participate in it. The Festival will end with the Solemn Eucharist Celebration at the Saint Francis Upper Basilica and with the performance of the Song of the Creatures by p. Domenico Stella.
