First appointment with the International Festival of Sacred Franciscan Music
Assisi Pax Mundi Mundi takes off. The tenth edition of the International festival of Sacred Franciscan Music gets to the heart with its first concert.
From the 19th to the 22nd of October of 2023 the Franciscan places will be the exceptional theatre of this moment of music and meeting. “And the Word became flesh” (John 1,14): this is the theme of the tenth edition of the festival that is promoted by the four Franciscan Families.
The event will bring to Assisi 12 choral groups coming from different part of Italy and of the world, with more than 250 participants, eight concerts and a Solemn Mess. Concerts will take place from the 19th to the 22nd of October at different moments of the day in the Franciscan places and their surroundings. The final concert will be the event’s crowning moment: all participating groups will attend it. The Festival will end with the Solemn Eucharist Celebration at the Saint Francis Upper Basilica and with the performance of the Song of the Creatures by F. Domenico Stella. All the appointments will be free and open to everyone.
Thursday the 19th of October will be the first Assisi Pax Mundi’s day. After the arrival of all attendant groups, music rendez-vous will start. You will listen the Choir of Iglesias and the Choir of Liceo Musicale Istituto “Campostrini” at 9 p.m. in the Saint Francis Lower Basilica. It will be an occasion of intergenerational meeting.
The day of Friday (20th of October) will be characterized by two concerts: the Polyphonic Choir “Magnificat” (Riesi CL) and the “Matilde Salvador” Choir (Alghero SS) will both perform at 5 p.m. in Saint Rufino Cathedral. Then, at 9 p.m., it will be turn of two other groups: the Læti Cantores from Salerno and the Polyphonic Choir “Agorà” from Carbonia.
Saturday the 21st of October will be an intense day for the Franciscan music and for the dialogue thanks to three concerts. Music will take off from the morning. At 11 a.m. in Saint Peter Church, the voices of the “Armonia” Choir (Salerno) and of the Vocal Ensemble “Emozioni inCanto” will exhibit.
At 4 p.m. in Santa Maria degli Angeli Basilica there will be the concert of the Vocal Ensemble “Resurrexit” from Potenza and of the Choir “Laudarmonia” coming from San Francesco al Campo, Turin.
Lastly, at 8:30 p.m. in the Saint Francis Upper Basilica in Assisi it will be moment of the final concert of the festival. It will be an occasion for the public to listen all the attendant groups and to have a little taste of their programs.
Assisi Pax Mundi will come to an end on Sunday the 22nd of October at 10:30 am. with the Solemn Mess that will take place in the Saint Francis upper Basilica.
After these four days dedicated to Franciscan music, for the special occasion of the tenth edition of the International Festival of Sacred Franciscan Music, there will be another final exceptional event. The date is Saturday the 28th of October at 9 p.m. in the Saint Francis Upper Basilica in Assisi with the exhibition of the Veritas Choir coming from Tokyo. It will be accompanied by the Chapel Choir of the Saint Francis Papal Basilica.
