The “Sturm und Drang” Polyphonic Choir (Impetus and Assault) takes its name from the proto-romantic cultural current that arose in Germany between the end of the 1700s and the beginning of the 1800s, forerunner of new themes and feelings of subsequent Romanticism. The Choir was founded in 1992 within the Musical Youth Association (A.Gi.Mus.) Of Paternò by the will of its permanent director M ° Salvatore Coniglio and for the passion of its own members who with seriousness and sacrifice manage to reconcile their commitments professional and / or study with the artistic activity of the choir, in order to spread the musical culture in the territory.
It was born at an amateur level, but subsequently the level of musical professionalism of the individual components grows; therefore the vast repertoire of the choir (which ranges from Gregorian chant, to Renaissance polyphony, to Baroque music, to that of the 1800s and 1900s) includes masterpieces of a high technical-musical level. The choir has participated in numerous events and music festivals (in 1996 it had the honor of performing in Rome in the presence of His Holiness Pope John Paul II).
Guest of various institutions and important musical associations, he has always received unanimous acclaim from the public and critics. In collaboration with the chamber orchestra “L’Estro Armonico” he has recorded a CD with music by Vivaldi, Bach, S. Coniglio.
He also recorded the soundtrack of the film “Barbara. The courage of faith.” Whose music composed by Salvatore Coniglio is published on CD. He was ranked first overall in the Tuttarte competition in Catania in 2005, first in the III AMA Calabria national choral competition in the polyphonic choirs section in 2013. For about five years he has also been involved in ancient music (medieval and Renaissance), organizing the Medieval Festival annually. In Paternò. In 2021 he won the third prize at the prestigious Guido d’Arezzo Competition in Arezzo.
