The choral institution “Magnificat” has existed for about twenty years and took its first steps within the ecclesial community of Barrafranca (Sicily) under the impulse and guidance of Fr. Liborio Tambè, to carry out the service of liturgical animation. It is an ever-growing institution that seeks to enrich itself in stylistic, literary, spiritual and musical expertise to best fulfill what it firmly believes to be a mission: to evangelize the Word of God through singing.
The choir consists of twenty-one members divided into four sections: sopranos, altos, tenors and basses among which soloists emerge according to the needs of the repertoire addressed. In the sad times that have befallen all mankind, due to the Covid-19 pandemic, the choir, seeing the impossibility of being able to meet, thought of virtually bringing its members together using multimedia tools to realize the song “Madre io vorrei” by Msgr. Pierangelo Sequeri, as an invocation to Her who fills everyone’s need for comfort with her grace. Beyond expectation, these feelings were shared by many people and entire communities, in Italy and around the world. The “virtual singing” mode has enabled collaborations with a French choir and a Hong Kong choir.
Several newspapers covered the Magnificat choir’s message, and there were also many appearances and interviews on Vatican radio and Tv2000. Magnificat Choir’s latest experiences include liturgical animation of the Eucharistic Celebration in the Lower Basilica of St. Francis in Assisi and participation in the TV program “Finalmente domenica” aired on TV2000 last April 17 in the presence of Cardinal Angelo Comastri. The choir composes its own pieces that enjoy liturgical approval. Finally, the organization is actively involved in collaborating to create a social solidarity canteen. Magnificat Choir is grateful to God for the gift of singing and music since it believes that singing becomes prayer if it comes from a heart capable of a desire to meet God.
